Apple iPod touch could launch today, likely to feature 8MP camera, 128GB storage option and 64-bit processor

Reports of Apple launching its refreshed line-up ofiPods this week has been doing the rounds online. Now, 9to5Mac reports that Apple is launching the new iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle today with many color options and spec upgrades.

Apple iPod touch 16GB Gold (6th Generation)

Only the iPod touch will be getting spec upgrades. The camera will be bumped up to  8-megapixel from the previous 5-megapixel. There will be new 64GB and 128GB storage options, and a faster 64-bit chipset.

The report states that the iPod Touch will also enable steps, fitness, and elevation tracking through the introduction of the ‘M’ chip seen on the iPhones. The price of the iPod will remain unchanged with 16GB at $199, while the newly introduced 64GB and 126GB will be priced at $299 and $399 respectively.

As indicated earlier, the iPod nano and iPod shuffle will get a host of new colors. The colors that are expected to be added to the line-up are gold, dark blue, silver, space gray, red and bright pink.

Apple last updated the iPod touch and iPod nano in October 2012 and the iPod shuffle in September 2010. None of this has been officially confirmed by Apple, and the company traditionally sticks to September for the unveil of its new iPods.
