Less than a couple of days after Tesla announced its upcoming Model 3 car, the company has already received a whopping 232,000 pre-orders for the electric vehicle. This was revealed by CEO Elon Musk in a tweet today.

Model 3 orders at 180,000 in 24 hours. Selling price w avg option mix prob $42k, so ~$7.5B in a day. Future of electric cars looking bright!

While over 232K pre-orders in such a short span is definitely good news for Tesla, this has also posed a challenge for the company given that it delivered a total of just over 50k units last year.

… and Musk knows this.

Definitely going to need to rethink production planning…

  1. Anonymous, 02 Apr 2016Why no Nissan or Toyota electric car news? is this tesla advertisement or what?because they are garbage and scream “look at me, i drive electric, i care about the environment”

  2. I don’t think large oil companies will let this penetrate in the market.

  3. Anonymous, 03 Apr 2016I don’t think large oil companies will let this penetrate in the market.Who do you think is behind car dealerships suing Tesla to keep them from selling their cars direct to customers?

  4. 253000 pre-orders now, Musk tweeted 7 hours ago. Well done. :-)

  5. By the time it reached production, the preorders number would have reached over five millions. Great job, Elon.

  6. Is this car tax free? For the income tax credit, do we really receive the actually amount of money after filing out tax return? I want to order one, but would rather want to get some facts laid down first.

  7. I don’t know why some people are not happy?
Tesla is feature in blogs but not there favourite brands. Keep coming articles of such techsavvy company.

  8. once we use up all the oil in the world in like, 40-50 years, Tesla is gonna lol.

  9. Just makes me wonder if there will be some lithium left for phones with their “bigger than whole world production” of batteries…

If current trends of power/oil consumption continue, by 2060 most oil wells will dry up.

  15. Saudi Aramco maybe invest EV or battery business soon

  16. Lolguy, 18 hours agoThis is what TESLA is trying to address….that is exactly what i mean. i bet soon Tesla will be the one laughing at other companies since they will have more advanced technology in electric cars due to so many years making them. 35,000$ price for a lower model is a huge milestone. i hope soon more cheaper electric cars by Tesla will be announced.

  17. Anonymous, 18 hours agohow about other companies electric cars? like nissan? got it?they haven’t dedicated themselves to innovation in EV’s. they treat it like a niche market with no potential for growth.

  18. I would highly appreciate and give my 4 thumbs-up to Tesla if he can penetrate this electrical car to Indonesia. Currently my country monopolized by stupid players which strongly backed-up by corrupted government making my country left behind neighboring countries. We also have oil company which their oil pricing never adjusted fairly based on world oil prices. Still, on this crisis they never laid off any single employees. Also, they limit and regulate any competitors making them not growing any inch. Our freedom is colonialized by our own.

  19. Old companies are going bust. When apple created the iPhone everybody was laughing at them. Almost a decade later no more there is Nokia, Ericsson, blackberry …

Laugh on at Tesla at your peril, in 10 years you won’t exist…
