LG V20 and iPhone 7 duo get announced, Note7 recall saga continues

The iPhone launch captured the bulk of the media attention this week – like it could have been otherwise. The pair of smartphones surprised no one due to the abundance of leaks, and yet everyone was curious to read the official bits.

So, no headphone jack, but Lightning EarPods and a dongle in the box, plus $159 wireless AirPods. No more clicking the Home button, it’s now pressure-sensitive instead. Great looking Jet Black color option that scratches easily, and IP67 certification, but no water damage covered under warranty. Of course, there are the usual upgrades in the internals (new chipset), with the 7 Plus also getting a bump in RAM up to 3GB.

That’s a very brief summary though, if you missed the iPhone 7 launch, be sure to catch up using the links below.

Meanwhile, Samsung is still dealing with the Galaxy Note7 recall, ‘heartbreaking’ as it may be. SDI-sourced batteries are no longer to be used, and anode and cathode shouldn’t come into contact regardless of maker. Refrain from using your Gear VR with the Note7 before it gets replaced too, Oculus warns.

On the day before the iPhone announcement, LG pulled the wraps off the V20 – the ticker display lives on, the body gets a total makeover. Meizu announced the m3 Max, the iPhone SE and high-end Xperias received price cuts here and there, and a 7-inch Google Pixel tablet by Huawei may be in the works.

  1. having a smartphone in 2016 without 3.5mm headphone jack shows what a joke apple is

  2. BeYourSelf1, 18 hours agoLG V20 Is The Best Smartphone In 2016 .Nice phone.

  3. BeYourSelf1, 18 hours agoLG V20 Is The Best Smartphone In 2016 .Meh,s7 edge is better. Lg v20 fills a very nice niche though. It has good audio (supposedly) which would appeal to the minority of audiophiles, and it has removable battery, which appeals to the minority that use that.

But the s7 edge has a better display and much better battery life, two key features. With other stuff that appeal to minorities like wireless charging and ip68. Only weakness is that glass is fragile.

https://www.youtube.com/watch… moreThose ‘speed tests’ on YT don’t actually test the CPU speed of a phone, just how fast phones can launch apps from memory. That’s why the 820 dominates the A9 in gaming and benchmarks

It could be 6 hours of SOT with heavy usage for all we know. But I’d value a V20 over an S7e or N7, because Samsung loves fragmentation. They have 4 different versions of TouchWiz over Marshmallow currently, and never bring any UI changes to their old phones, which causes older phones’ updates to be stupidly slow. At least LG keeps all of their supported phones (to my knowledge) on one version of Optimus, and those update speeds from them are impressive for their heavy skin. Unlike Samsung.

  8. PLAYER SLAYER, 10 hours agoWe don’t know how battery life is on the V20 yet. It could be 6 hours of SOT with heavy usage … moreLooking at the battery size and lg’s history, it’ll be the same as all their other phones and fall under the barely satisfactory category. There’s basically no reason to think it would be better.

Lg’s ota updates are released quite close to Samsung’s. And more importantly Samsung is basically the only OEM to give the monthly security updates. Which aren’t just security, for example Samsung was the only oem to update the graphics api to opengl es 3.2 on marshmallow, while everyone else is just waiting for nougat before adding it.

Pretty sure lg rarely ever update the ux, like most other brands. The only ones committed to that are Chinese OEMS who don’t bother with android updates so much.

  10. Finally apple released iPhone and that would end all those rumours about it. It was literally waste of time.

At least for next few months hopefully there shall be peace on the matter for next gen iPhone speculations.
